power lost and sputtering at hyway speed
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:27:49 pm »
today i drove my 85 c20 350sbc 280 mile to Nebraska for school. about 100 miles into the trip right after i fueled up it started to sputter and not have any power to pull itself any faster than 55mph or before it would spazz if u tried to accelerate any. i am wondering if it might of just bean bad gas but have a feeling it is probably something else. i am kind of puzzled on this thing.

It sure is coincidental that you noticed it right after fueling.  You may have pumped dirty or contaminated fuel.  Check your fuel filter.  Is there any chance you got diesel?

I also agree with bd, check the fuel filter.

All this happening just after fill up raises a big red flag.

Add a can of HEET. Might have had some water in the fuel.

i did get it at a new caseys station where the diesel and gas fills are on the same hose and it started to do it about 20 or thirty miles after fueling. did drive it some today and it acts like it is dieseling or running on half of the cylinders when u try to accel past 30mph. but i did get all new filters today and napas version of heat! probably be the weekend before i have time to mess with it again and install filters. i am wondering if it could posibly be a bad dist. cap and rotor but ill check that saturday.

Nope!

Diesel would just make it smoke a lot and run poorly, I still think it's water/trash!

Putting large amount of gas in a diesel is a different story.

Fill it full with good (high octane) gas.

About the only things that could be damaged is the catalytic converter or oxygen sensor, if you have one.
