Th350 or 700r4 What is it?
« on: January 11, 2012, 05:00:56 pm »
I have an extra tranny that came with my truck. I was told that it had about 15K miles on the rebuild. It is a 2X4 tranny and my truck is a 4X4, so I opted to rebuild the tranny that was in my truck, now I am trying to get rid of the other one. I had it listed on CL as a 350, and had someone come to look at it, and told me that it was a 700. So I sold it as a 700, now this guy is saying that it is a 350. Is there an easy way to tell the difference? The one I have has a locking torque converter. Did they put these on 350's?

I cant imagine buying (or selling for that matter) an engine or trans with out confirming what it is. Such an easy step to make for either person.

TH350 square pan with one corner cut off.
700R4 pretty much square pan with an indent in the rear of the pan if I remember correctly.
They did offer TH350s with a lock up converter.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
