Best 406 EFI

Hey. I have a 1986 Silverado with the following combo:
406 SBC
AFR 195 Elimintor heads
Ultradyne custom ground solid flat tappet cam .501/.510 240ish duration and 108
Hooker 1 3/4 Super Comp headers with X-pipe and 3 chamber Flomasters
9.8 to 1 compression
700R4 with 2300 stall
.373 gears
Right now it has a Weiand Stealth intake and Holley 770 Street Advenger. I have been looking at 3 EFI systems. The first one is the Edelbrock Pro-Flow XT. The second is the Accel Super Ram, and the final contestant is the Holley Stealth Ram. The Edelbrock is the newest of the bunch and looks pretty cool in black. I also like the looks of the Holley and it seems to have more features for power adders in the future. Any ideas? Thanks.

The edelbrocks been around since the mid 90s, looks nice, royal pain in the butt to tune. No experience with the other aftermarket systems.

Convert it over to the 411 LS computer. You will have to use a Vortec 99 (old style timing cover - and extra silicone) and a Vortec 1x Cam Sync Distributor and 24X crank sensor.
For the intake you could use any one setup for injectors, add a fuel rail set, Throttle body and sensors and...
BTW, EFIconnection makes a kit for this...

Thanks for the link. That looks cool. I am working out of town right now, so I have read up on every system I could find. I like the Holley kit the best so far. The Edelbrock tunnel ram XT looks very cool and it comes with a new distributor. The Holley does not. Once you add everything up, like a new Comp Cam roller EFI cam and lifter kit, distributor, and hidden extra cost pieces, the parts total alone is around $4,000. That is what I originally paid for the truck. Funny how that works.

Parts cost for my entire build was less than 4000.

I'm going Vortec heads on my 400sb. It's possible to use a newer donor FI off a wrecking yard motor I think. I'm not there yet in my research, but hoping that will be a simple/affordable future project/upgrade. All info on how to do it should be on the net, just need to do some major research. OR just spend the $4000, but that's beyond my budget for now. Thanks for posting this topic, as it get's my head thinking/planning.

As far as future power adders, I know the guy in charge of the development for the efi systems at holley personally. He told us in October that they were still tweaking things with the map sensor setups, and they should be on the market in the spring. Supposed to support up to 5 bar maps, and be "self tuning" like the rest of them. Factory GM ls stuff is good to around 800 at the wheels, after that most people end up with something like a big stuff 3 and a tbi setup. Personally I don't see dumping that kind of money into a small block.

I have seen Factory GM stuff running up to 1000+ horsepower using EFI LIVE and HP Tuners. That is in ridiculous territory for the street, plus, GM has a lot tougher standards that the aftermarket has to meet...
