Driveshafts too short!
« on: January 20, 2012, 09:47:18 pm »
Hey all!  So, I'm most of the way through doing an NV4500/NP205 conversion in my 1986 K20, and have encountered an issue with the driveshafts...  The rear one is too short, the front one too long.  I had a feeling this would be an issue from the start, as I never got a solid answer as to which ones would fit.  So, my question is, does anyone know which driveshafts will work as a direct bolt in, or am I better off just getting mine lengthened/shortened as needed?  At this point, I'm open to anything, seeing as this is the only thing holding me back from completing the job.  Thanks to all who reply in advance!

I don't think there will be a "direct bolt in", since you took a newer trans and put into a older truck. ( unless the NV4500 is the exact same length as one that came in our trucks.
If it was me, I would just take both driveshafts in and have them made to fit.  That way you know it is right and they will be balanced too, no more problems.  Some time trying to find "something" else that fits is more of a pain then it's worth.

best thing i can suggest is take measurements and go to a junkyard and find one that will fit your yokes and the right length. i know at one of the junkyards i work at we had a whole rack of shafts all diffrent sizes just sitting and waiting for someone to buy some
