stepside bed conversion Q's

so… i finally found a LWB stepside bed and im going to call about picking it up tomorrow.

im wondering what all im going to have to move/replace though… gas tanks, move some wiring around for tail lights etc etc. aside from having to find a place for the tank (WHERE?!?!?!) does anyone know what is involved?

What year model truck does the bed come from?  The 73-87 Chevy/GMC stepside beds had step plates in front of the bedside fenders that would accommodate the saddle tanks.

In other words, if the Long Stepside bed is from a 73 - 87 Chevy/GMC truck and going onto a 73-87 Chevy/GMC truck, you shouldn't have to move the fuel tanks. You're mainly going to have to worry about connecting the fuel filler and the taillight wiring.

     As what Jason S said, the beds will interchange.  The only other thought, a lot of step side beds did not come with dual tanks, if you your truck has them check the step side fenders for gas caps on both sides, or vise versa, if yours is single and the step is dual.

awesome, so at worst I'll have to move a tank and weld a seam for the fuel door I'm not using. it should just bolt on since I believe its a 75 bed.

that should be ok. i was thinking about eliminating the fuel doors all together and just having a locking twist off cap showing on the fender hump… maybe something in chrome.

Keep the doors IMO, much cleaner than a chrome  cap. You might have a problem finding filler hoses for one side or the other if you do dual tanks on a step side. They make them for one side, but hard to find for the other. Im still looking for one. I forgot what side it is. I think driver side is the uncommon one.

You can always put a suburban gas tank in it.  That's how my 8' stepside is set up.

     I don't believe a 75 has fuel doors, only a twist on cap if I am correct.  My 74 does not and I think the 75 is the same.

well guys, yet again…its a NO GO on the stepside. dude decided to get greedy and part it out. he sold the fenders and tailgate to three different people and apparently took the rest to a scrap yard.

you just cant take any one on their word anymore.
