lowering my 85 GMC
« on: April 17, 2003, 12:53:00 pm »
new member here with a few questions,im going to lower my ride next week and have a few concerns. If i use a flipkit and coils what will my ride quality be like? should i use a flipkit or shackles and hangers?I cant afford spindles right now so im going with 3inch coils and a front end allighnment..there are quite a few guys runnin around here with that setup, some are even running 2inch shackles or a missing leaf along with their flipkit. My truck is drove everyday so i need it to be at least a tollerable ride.does this sound like it will work out ok?any help and suggestions will be appreciated..also instead of ordering the kit can i just order the axl relocator or flip brackets?

well why dont you just wait to get the spindles? if your going to go through the trouble to pop the lower control arm from the spindle to install springs might as well get spindles.....spindles are like 250 for the pair i think and how much were the springs? for the rear get the flip kit and take a leaf or 2 out like i did. a shackle kit in conjunction with a flip kit it too low.........look at my truck in my profile.......i have a belltech 3" spindles 1 coil cut from stock 3/4 ton spring, rear i have bell tech flip kit and some leafs removed. its too low as it is my headers will hammer down if im not careful where i drive.

go Bell Tech man...........i have ran those cheaper junk kits before and they suck.......i bought a JDM flip kit before and the quality was @#%$.....the rear end would rock back and fourth when i brake hard or accelerate........you need to do it right and do it once.......i have lowered a lot of cars and trucks.

Man, I'd wait till you can afford the 200 bucks for the spindles.  If your going to flip the rear and add shackles your looking at 7 in and if your only running 3 in coils, that will just look funny.  Plus If you want to get that thing to the ground, I wouldn't plan on using for a daily driver.  I have a 73 with a 4/6 drop and it works great for getting around.  The kit was $600 and worth installing it all at once.
