My new 86 c10
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:56:32 pm »
Well i finally replaced my 85 yesterday with an 86 chevy silverado c10 700R4 trans, cromed out 350 with 18k on it. body has 99444.4 miles on it. truck was a 1 owner truck till last year when he passed a way and a local guy bought it and replaced the gummed up 305 with the 350. Truck has brand new tires. only rust is on outer cab corners and rockers. paint is nice on this one still and everything works except dome light, cruise control and air conditioning. Guy was hard for cash since he has a kid on the way and i got it for $1100. out of the last 5 trucks ive had i think this one is the nicest! It isnt perfect but has been taken care of and not trashed like most of the one u find anymore. I think that i probly got a pretty good deal on this truck. ill post pictures tomarrow!

Update- today i drove it 300 miles to school and discovered some issues..  :-[ it has a fairly severe oil leak in the front of the motor, i think that it is probly the front main seal, but havent confirmed it yep, and when im driving it down the interstate it is just barely able to pull its self in over drive and is rilly slugish accelorating, but that all comes and goes. kind of puzzled on that, but this seems to be a solid body and drive line, other than the motor, seems to run ok, but im leary of it.

Hopefully you don't have too many issues to sort out. Be sure to post the photos.

If the previous owner got the chrome dress up kit for the 350 and put on a chrome timing chain cover they tend to warp and leak oil. Just a thought.

I would definitely check this before anything else, valve cover gaskets and such are much easier to fix then front main seal.  Also you might get lucky and find out the trans just needs some adjustments.

its definatly leaking on timeing cover or front main seal. used about 3 quarts of oil yesterday, i toped it off every 100 miles ::). the no powerf deal seams to come and go.... kind of puzzled on that, have to look into it.

Well at that rate looks like you are going to be pulling some stuff off the front of that engine.

was playing around with it last night and got the dome light and the bed light to work also!  ;D  Figured out criuse control, needs the vacum lines hooped back up, guy left them off after engine swap. Air conditioning is the same thing, needs a compressor. also noticed that the water pump pully is bent, but doesnt throw belts, so ill have to snage one from my local junk yard next time im home. havent further investigated oil leak yet, but i talked to the instructor that does the automotive engine repair and he said they could take a look at it some time and look it over and possibly fix it. but it might be a month before they have time to do it. Also needs shocks replaced, but all in all its a pretty solid truck! im happy with this one!!!

Very nice looking truck, by the looks of the pic, you wont need a/c anytime soon.   ;D
