Nicely put. I've been reading up on the rustoleum paint and it's various opinions and theories for a while now. I have to say allot of the $50 paint jobs look good, but will they hold up to at least 2-3 years? I'm not convinced it will hold up on a daily driven vehicle rain and shine. I think I'd rather save back for a "cheaper" air compressor and gun and use something budget minded,  like summit's brand of paint, or something specifically made and tested for automobile use.

The resin/backbone of the paint along the UV absorber package along with the R&D payback is why automotive paint costs what it does.  Raw materials are constantly being discontinued and skyrocketing in price.   You think gas prices are getting bad...  Shortages drive the price up we have a staff of full time chemists evaluating alternative raw materials.  In paint you get what you pay for.  Do your research.  I have seen Alkyd type coatings hold up rather well to the elements.
