1984 Chevrolet K10 LWB

One of the local farmers and I were talking the other day... He just replaced the door on his 84 K10 LWB feed truck about a month ago. 

About 1 week ago, he was driving the '84 to go feed his cows and someone didn't stop at a county road intersection and wrecked the front end on the truck.  He thinks the other guys insurance will probably want to total the truck, which is fine for him as it's an old feed truck.

He knows I'm into the old GM 4x4's.  Anyhow, he made me an offer...  Once the insurance is settled, I take the truck and get it off his property. He said it has a good clear title, so that makes things a little easier.

I haven't seen it, but he said it's an 84 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4, 250 I-6, 4-speed with NP208 (I assume) transfer case.  I am very tempted to take him up on the offer...

If I take him up on his offer, I'll post photos of the truck.

For now, I have to convince the better half that free really is a good deal...

Are you saying it's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission?

Well, at this point my job is transferring me literally across the state of Oklahoma. I'm in SW OK close to the Texas Panhandle and will be going to Eastern OK, close to Arkansas.  As far as I know at this point, I should have to be there June 3.
Then, we have a baby due around early May.
We have to find a house somewhere around my new job location, so the house hunting trip will be March or April.

Thankfully, I won't have to move the house or garage stuff... But I've got to move my two GM trucks, a Massey-Ferguson Tractor and implements, a Cub Cadet rider and a walk behind mower and other lawn equipment.  So I'm looking at around 3 or more trips across Oklahoma...

If things work out, I'll definitely take the truck.  But we are about to have a very full plate on the table...

       Sometimes it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.  But you better be careful, I did that recently and my wife just looked at me and said you know better and walked away, that is when I knew I was in trouble.

I have experienced a few of the you know better episodes... It can be a fine line to walk... 

At this point though it's a matter of logistics.

In the meantime, I also may have a lead on a crew cab 4x4 from the southern Texas panhandle...

I just got that look when I showed my other half a m1028 Thats up for auction in Maryland.  Then I got the famous "What are you going to do with the other truck" then she walked away before i could answer.

I personally think that the Jeep, IH Scout, early Ford Bronco's guy's have an advantage in that (in the movies) they're "quite, fun, romantic and the guy's pick their girls up, swing them around and set them in there." This is based on direct input from my supervisor.

So did you add to your trips across Oklahoma?

Thirsty:  I talked to the K10 owner today and he said that Farm Bureau settled with him...  But get this, the first offer was $1200 and they get the truck.  He said no.  The second offer, which he took, was $1500 and he keeps the truck.  The caveat to the deal is the title is "killed", or in other words the truck would need a salvage title to go back on the road...

I told him that if I had same situation with my '73 or '74 and they offered such a deal, I would have to refuse it. It wouldn't have been my fault that their motorist hit me and I shouldn't have to give up a clear title to settle up on their motorist's mistake... 

Either way, he said that I can get the truck when I'm ready.

At this point it looks like I'll add an additional trip across Oklahoma in May.
