454 TBI Upgrade

Isnt there only 5 sensors required for tbi/ecm to function properly?
I have a 1988 v30 454 4bbl (stock Qjet) and would like to get better than 9mpg. I have a 'fell-through-the-floor' rusted 1987 v30 454 TBI.
1.map sensor (same thing as 'vacuum' sensor?)
will be located in the swapped intake?
2.O2 sensor (can i use the plugged hole in the end of my new aftermarket exhaust manifold?)
i dont need a reading from a cat do i? because I just got a nice new dual exhaust with magnaflows and a fresh inspection sticker without any cats.
3.temp sensor( is this the one in the T-stat housing?)
Pass side block sending unit is for high temp light
drver side block sending unit is for temp guage...correct?
4.Throttle position( can bring it over with the 87 throttle linkage?)
5. Speed sensor(where is this?)
'hookup' the ecm/aldl and a new in tank fuel pump. Is that it? Is this a good idea? is it worth it for around 12mpg? I have all the parts and should only need new sensors.
If I had the cash flow I'd probably build the 87 454 top end up and swap the hole thing. I'm trying to work with what I have on a limited budget. Maybe if we got some snow up here in the north east id be able to afford it. Instead I've had no money and plenty of time for the rigs:)

The good thing about the '87 tbi ecm's is that hey were the simplest and had the least amount of sensors monitoring the engine.
1. MAP-if I remember right the MAp is located in the throttle body it's self so..check this one off.
2. O2 sensor-yes you can use the bung in your new exhaust. Here is another one of those "good things about '87 tbi ecm" they don't require a before and after cat reading plus it's a one wire plug so all you need is a high grade 12 guage wire, crimps and I'd reccomend soldering for the crimp ands and to splice the two wires together. Then all you need is a little shrink rap to keep it weather tight.
3. Temp sensor is either in the actual thermostat housing or screwed in the the front side of the intake just behind the t-stat housing normally on the drivers side.
You got the temp sending units right..The only reason i remember this it when i swaped the stock bronze radiator for a 3" speedway I forgot to hook it back to the block and couldn't figure out why my gage wouldn't work...always the simple things that you look over.
4. Not real sure about this one..it should swap over with little to no modifications bc chevy always tried keep it simple which means cheaper for them.
5. speedo sensor location is dependant on if it is v/c series on v=in transfer case if i remember correct anc on c=it will be in the driverside of the trany normally on the tail end.
Sounds like you have covered most of your bases but remember there will always be something that you over look. I'd say that is is worth it just for the simple fact that you have the time and parts...if you don't like it then you you learned a lot, which is most important and you can always go back as long as you don't swing the BFH (Big Freakin Hammer) around too much.
OH and if you can get your grease monkey hands on a camera post a little so we can se how its going plus it ill help with any potential problems.
