Sometimes Ignorance Really is Bliss

I had a bit of time to devote at the paint shop to try and get a color match for the orange used on the fender badges and hubcaps. The same orange also appears to be the same shade of orange for the G-M-C letters on the grille and horn button color, as well as the orange on the Camper Special badges.

As I was looking through my stash of NOS parts for a GMC horn button I know I have, I came across something I forgot I had...



So, what's better than finding one NOS fender badge?


It's finding two NOS fender badges...


This little bit of treasure made for a more pleasant afternoon.

Nice find. Is the "hundred" painted white on the top badge and silver on the bottom one?

The white appearance is from the camera angle.  It's "hundred" is actually natural metal, not as polished as the 25. The "25 Hundred" is stamped into a thin metal plate that is glued (?) to the larger GMC chrome plate.

They are for a '73-'74 GMC 3/4 ton with the "Custom" or base trim package.  The 1/2 ton would have 15 Hundred and the 1 ton badge had 35 Hundred.

I've always been curious why GMC did the 25 Hundred vs. 2500, then switched to simply using 25, then went to 2500.
