Car chase movies :)
« on: March 05, 2012, 03:37:07 am »
Hey guys :) I saw Death Proof a while back. Its a Quentin Tarantino flick that has some bad old muscle car chases in it. charger, challenger, nova..... In the movie theres some name drops of old classic car chase movies. One of the movies mentioned is Vanishing Point. I decided to check it out and I was verry happy I did so ;D I was wondering if you guys know any cool movies with those awesome car chases were its not all cgi. Its just not the same u know :P Watching that 1970 Challenger rip around and destroy police cars was way to cool  8) So if you guys know any old car movies Id really appreciate you passing that info on to me. Ive heard of the original Gone In 60 seconds, The Driver, Duel, Dirty mary Crazy Larry....

Most recent one I saw was Drive with Ryan Gosling. It is a bit more subdued than most action flicks, but it has no CGI.  Gosling's character drives a 73 Chevelle Malibu as well as a late model Mustang GT.  Not a bad flick.

If this counts  ::)

Blues Brothers! I think at one point it held the record for the most wrecked cars in a movie.

Gone in 60 seconds (1974) is hands down the best car chase in a movie that will ever happen.  No CGI.  It would be impossible for a chase to be filmed like that again, especially in the streets of L.A.  Too many permits and politicians would have to agree and since there are more liability issues nowadays, it would never happen again.  Toby Halicki died a few years later in a car crash scene he was filming.  I think a pole or something fell on his car.
If i recall in the original movie, there was a scene when the yellow mustang hit a guardrail coming off the interstate that wasn't planned.
that movie was intense. Halicki spent something like 5 years buying old cars so he could crash them in the movie, including real police cars that had been deadlined from use.

Steve Mcqueens bullitt is my favorite car chase movie.  If it counts check out 2 lane blacktop.  But then again I'm a Pontiac guy so I'm partial to the GTO in it.

Have to see Bullit - McQueen is a stud.  Ronin isn't too bad for car scenes, good movie too.  Theres an old one called Dirty Larry Crazy Mary (or something like that) with a good chase scene.  Could always kill time with Smokey and the Bandit or Cannonball Run just for the heck of it, while someone comes up with some more.

Not so much chases, but some good car action. Drive Angry with Nicholos Cage. Pretty good story too. Little bit of far fetched, but still a story line of family doing anything to save family. Bit of nudity, swearing, and alot of shooting / killing.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Movies with old cars, and drag racing.
Return to Macon County, is another. There was another it was called Hot Rod.
Two Lane Blacktop. Supposedly that's the same 55 they used for American Graffiti.

Faster with the Rock prominently features a pretty sweet Chevelle. The Chevelle was kinda weird. It looked like a 71/72 with a 70 front clip.  Not a bad look though.

At the moment, my favorite chase scene is from The Driver. I mean... that c10 rocked the streets!

i bought the Criterion DVD of Two Lane Blacktop.  That was James Taylor's first and only starring role in a movie...he didn't have much to say.   I'm glad he spent most of his time writing and singing songs.
I wasn't too impressed with Two Lane Blacktop.  I bought it for the old cars and the idea of driving accross America.  It was ok in an American Graffiti type of way, but it was no Lucas film.  Don't spend too much for this DVD---and $10 would be too much.

Yeah I dont care how the acting is lol The girl in Dirty Mary Crazy Larry was horrible but she was in a tiny top and killer car the entire movie so.. I just rent them on Netflix so wasting money isnt an issue its dirt cheap. Dont shy away from putting a movie down just because of bad acting. It cant be worse than Troll 2 or Rock'n'Roll Nightmare ;D Im just looking for cool cars, racing, crashes, girls... Thanks for the Movie titles that have come up so far guys :) Keep em coming!!! Even movies like Easy Rider, Maximum Overdrive, Christine...even if its not all chases and action or even very good actors I dont mind.
