Got a new motor

3 days ago my dad picked up me new motor. Its a 76 400 sbc out of a 76 RV.Its has a turbo 400 transmission that came with the engine. The engine has been rebuilt once and bored out to a 406. The  cylinder walls still have the honing marks from the last rebuild so it hasn't got to many miles on it since then. My dad drove the RV around before buying it and said it ran great. It has a good working 850cfm quadrajet on it.I plan on rebuilding it and putting some new double hump heads and a new cam in it. I also want to get a mallory unilite and new headers for it, a new timing chain, and cover. Then shes going into my truck and it'll finally be running after over a year of sitting in my driveway.

70's qjets were 750 and 800cfm. If you have a 76 qjet like me you have a great carb as it has provisions for part throttle adjustment and a electric choke. There are mods that can be done to the qjet to make it run over 500+ hp. Check out cliff ruggles book on qjets. When I just bought all my parts I chose summit racing because of prices and no shipping just handling. I got mostly summit parts and a comp cams high energy 206h. I'm going to get my engine this week maybe thurs or Friday and have them install the cam. Hope to have it running by next week:)

I was definetly excited about getting a good running Qjet.I have 2 others but idk what size or model they are. They have been sitting in buckets sprayed down with oil for years.I dont feel confident enough in my carb skills to try to rebuild one myself yet.And yeah I really do owe my dad. He drove 50  miles there and back twice. Once to look at it and again to buy it. Should be fun putting it together once I  get back in august.

I dont have access to those 2 carbs at the moment.  There sitting in my addict and I''m in the middle of the med. And i certainly couldnt ask my wife to do it (the addict scares here,hahaha). But thanks for the offer. My dad sent me the measurements of the primaries and secondaries of the carb that came on the new motor and the numbers. When i looked it up I didnt find anything on the numbers but the primaries and secondaries matched up to an 850.

You will like that motor. Make sure the heads you use are drilled for the steam ports.

I think ive decided to get some reproduction double hums with the 72cc combustion chamber. Unless something else pops up between now and then. I will send them to a machine shop for the holes to be drilled.Also, turns out the motor has been rebuilt before and bored to a 406. The cylinder walls are in great shape though. Im trying to get the numbers together to compute the compression ratio but I havent gotten them yet.
