No Reverse
« on: March 08, 2012, 04:46:50 pm »
I just pick up an 87 silverado 3/4ton 4x4. tranny is 700r4 Truck is decent got two beds one rust free and some doors with it, they said tranny wouldnt go into reverse, well got it to my place and when truck is in park motor seems like it has a load on it, and when you put it into reverse it will go forward, goin down road it shifts normal and isnt sloppy, checked fluid and it is full and doesnt look or smell burnt.  my guess is tranny is junk and ideas? somethin stuck?

Check the shift linkage. My GMC c1500 used to do that after the transmission was put in and the linkage not properly aligned due to a missing clevis pin.

To clarify a point, you said when you put it into reverse it will go forward.  In reverse will it go through all the gears while going forward like it is in drive ?  Or it will just move forward like in gear ?

well in park the truck feels like it has a load on motor like when you normally put it into park it will idle smoother it still feels like it has something holding it back. After i shut it off last night just it idling in park the fluid was really hot. And Bake i havent tried to drive it foward in reverse because it seems like it doesnt wanna go like it should.
