« on: March 17, 2012, 12:51:44 am »
Will these header extensions clear the trans crossmember? I'm looking  to purchase soon. Thanks

You have to remind us of your truck and set up it has, sorry but have way to much going on in life to be able to remember everyone's build.

Oh sorry. Its a 82 c10 lwb. I remember one member was saying he had to make some bends around the trans crossmember. My crossmember is higher on oneside than the other.  I don't have the engine I the truck yet so I figured id ask to see what everyone else has been through

If you leave them in the box, they'll clear fine.

Headers?  No engine in the truck, you don't know where the headers dump.  You don't know yet if there is a fitment issue.

Sorry if I sound a little abrupt, but with your question and what you provided, I don't know.
That's like asking if 100.00 is enough.

I am not a fan of headers but the long tube that I have seen require an offset on the drivers side to go above the cross member (where the cat should be) and the passenger side goes under.  If you can find a 73-74 cross member then both sides can go underneath...

I'm gonna buy the pipes from summit and weld them myself.

I used them on my 79 k10. Driver side was fine (straight back), but my passenger header dumped at a 45* angle towards the ground, so i needed to add in another bend.

Ok hope my headers don't angle down. Hoping this works out so I don't have to go to a exhaust shop and then have them try and max out my wallet. Wish I had a pipe bender for 2-1/2 pipe

That is where you make friends with people, I have done enough favors over time for different people, when it comes to a one time thing, I usually can find someone I have helped.  If I am going to need something more than once, I either rent it or buy it when I can.

If you just need one or two bends, its cheaper if you take some pipe, cut it, and weld it back together. Thats what I did.

I think a lot (if not all)  73-87 3/4 tons and 1 tons came with a double hump cross member.  my 78 has one in is stock.  might could get one on the cheap that way.

I will look around on craigslist. All the junkyards I've called so far don't have any old chevy trucks.
