intermittent wiper upgrade?
« on: March 17, 2012, 12:04:56 pm »
thought I'd ask the pro's, is there a upgrade for intermittent wipers for my 82' half ton? the first setting is to much for just a drizzle and it's kinda annoying reaching down to turn them on and off every couple minutes..

I don't know what years had the intermittent wipers, but with time an patience i would imagine a swap could be done.
Easy way out, look for an aftermarket dial.  I've had one somewhere, JC Whitney used to sell them to upgrade to intermittent wipers.  Just a box with a dial (rheostat), easy to wire in.  Had one for my '73, but sold the truck before a got a round to it.

My plow was half price if i took the truck with it.

I've done 2 on the newer 84-87 with the wiper switch on the turn signal stalk.  Both of mine were done when I changed out the standard column for a tilt wheel that happened to have the intermittent wiper option.  The only thing I had to add was the electronics under the column to make it all work... Hopefully the dash mounted switch is plug and play as well.  I know they existed on earlier models cause I remember seeing them.   I am sure someone will chime in to lend their experience.

I have an 82 and have thought the same thing also have done some research. I think all you need is the intermittent wiper switch and a module of some sort which can both be purchased at the parts store for about $130 and it all plugs right in. Or if you could find a parts truck you could take it from that. If you do get the parts from the parts store keep the receipts in case it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure this will work someone else on here should know for sure. Let me know how it turns out.

I have had the aftermarket type with the dial and was very happy with it.  I might add one to my current truck now that you mention it.  Its cheap and easy to install, but doesn't exactly look factory.
