The smallest tire GM put on the R10's in 1987 was 195/75/15, the largest was 235/75/15.
Other sizes were 205/75/15 and 225/75/15.  Ground clearance decreases as does weight capacity.  Other than that not much different.

BTW, 255/70/15's are roughly 29" tall and roughly 10" wide from sidewall to sidewall (not tread), 235/75/15's are roughly 28.875" tall and roughly 9.25" from sidewall to sidewall (not tread), 195/75/15" is 26.5" tall and 7.67" sidewall

I run 255 70R15's on my truck and like them (seems to be a popular choice around home) but I don't have any experience on lowering the truck.  My truck had 275 60R 15's at one time and frankly I liked the way they looked better and the truck did sit a little lower.  Chris, what size are those tires you run on those Impala SS rims?

275/55/17's.  Same general height as the 235/75/15 that came stock, just a lot wider and bigger rim.

I have 255/70-15 BFG's on the front of my truck with a 4" drop. They only rub a little when going thru a big dip or cornering hard in curves. I may go a tad smaller next time, but I like the look.
The rear is 6" drop with 315/70-15's, don't rub at all. only once when going over uneven terrain and one side went way up and the other way down, but barely rubbed.
Wheels are all 15x8. I'll try to load pics. The avatar pic is awfully small.

Mike's truck has a suspension drop, there is no way you can get one that low with just tires.

Flip kit on rear and 3" drop spindles on front with a 1" drop spring and drop shocks.
