1981 Silverado 4x4 Diesel
« on: April 03, 2012, 10:44:58 am »
Hello, i recently bought a 1981 Chevy silverado k20 with a 6,2 Diesel. I have owned a 1983 K10 2 years ago, so i am a bit familiar with theese.
Im age 24 and live in Finland. My plan for this car is to restore it to mint conditon, it has great (sheet)? metal and suspension, axles etc.. But my dashboard and tailgate elctrical harness and engine are not so good :S
Itīs a J code Truck but has an EGR valve in the intake, so i probably have onother engine in it ? Well anyway here are som pics --> And if it exist any project thread at this forum im more than happy if admin move this thread there.

There are a few around here, but i see maybe 1-2 a year thats on the road of theese 4x4 K series. There is maybe 1 more 4x4 for sale between 80-87 that i know of, but we got alot of Vans and Suburbans/blazers and 88-newer silverados. But not as many as in the states :)

Welcome to the site, you should introduce yourself in the "general site info" section under "members" so everyone can say hi.  This might be moved to members rides.
Your post was a little confusing, are you asking if the engine is a 6.2 diesel, or asking if someone can tell what it is ?  If your questioning what motor it has, you can find the block vin # behind and below the drivers side head on the block and post it, then we can tell you what it is.  More and better pics of engine would not hurt either.

The 6.2L diesel wasn't offered in these trucks until 1982.  Someone must have transplanted the engine into this truck.

-6 speed bullet proof manual transmission - NV5600
-Gear Vendors Overdrive

Thanks, well i guess i should go there and do that ! And about my topic, yes i wonder what engine i have. It,s a 6,2 but i dont belive it is the one that was there from new, it has the EGR valve in the intake and is a J series truck.
The truck should be 82 then, it's manufactured 1981 but sold 1982 so that should be about right. And it has never been a gasser or 5,7dx in it ! It would be stated in the registerpapers otherwise that engine is changed !
I will crawl under the car this weekend, and try to get a peek at it. Is the fire wall in the way of the engine number ?

You have to clean the area really good, most of the time a flash light and mirror from the top works best for me.
