1986 k20 plow truck

First of all Happy Easter everyone.

I am going to scrap my k30 with a meyers plow and a TBI 350 on monday. That truck pushed snow very well. Now I have found an 86 k20 with a 292 and a fisher plow for sale with a flatbed and not too bad of a body. But I have never had a 292 and haven't heard much about them? One thing I have heard is that they were made in mexico after 1980. Are they lower quality after they moved to mexico? Also I had a 250 with the integral head I don't think the 292's had this but anyone know for sure. Will this engine have any issues being a good plow truck and occasional tow vehicle? Also it has a 4 speed so that is a plus. The other question I have is about the plow it's a fisher. I have never used a fisher before but I think blazin has one on his yellow snow k20 right? Well are they any good. I do kind of like the bottom trip and they do look a bit heavier than a meyers plow as far as construction. Well overall my main question is will this be an okay truck for work? The 292 kind of makes me a little nervous hopefully someone has used one in a similar situation as this before and can give me some good feedback.

You would be smart to keep your K30's axles to use in the k20 later on. The K 20 if it has the original axles has a semi floating 14 bolt, and a 10 bolt up front. The K30 has a full floating 14 bolt, and a Dana 60 up front.
As far as the 292 they are great motors, plenty of low end torque. The integrated head 250 wasn't one of GM's better ideas!

In my opinion, there is no other plow except a Fisher!

If I get parts trucks with anything other than a Fisher plow on them I cut the iron off, and the plow in half, and scrap it. Places around here won't pay prepard #1 unless its 5' or shorter.

The 292 is a great engine; the later ones had the integrated head also.  All I've ever owned is a Meyer plow, circa 1983, and I really liked it.  Up until recent times the most used plows up here in Anchorage were Western, Meyer, and Fisher.  See more and more Boss plows as well as Sno-Way, etc.  They're all too expensive now days, even used plows.  You will be a busy guy w/ the manual trans when plowing snow: clutching, shifting, working controls, and steering.  lol

Thanks Blazin I know about the axles but unfortunately I couldn't grab them. I needed to get rid of the truck. Anyways the manual trans isn't a big deal I hate auto's and My old k30 was the same trans I really liked plowing with it. Thanks for the responses guys.

I want to cry when I see a k30 getting junked with the Dana 60 still in it. They sell for about $1,000 in Mass if its a single rear wheel set up.

A matching front, and rear set single rear wheel 14 bolt, and a Dana 60 around here can go anywhere from $1,500, to $2,000 plus.
