Anyone ever done a shackle/hanger drop with a flip kit?
« on: April 12, 2012, 02:14:23 am »
I did a shackle/hanger drop a few years ago but would like to drop it another 3"-4" or so. I dont want it to be too low, just enough to drop right on top of the tires (295/50 15). I dumped the original shackles & hangers & don't think replacements are available. Don't want to lose ride quality or carrying capacity. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Before you get 100 different reply's, how involved do you want to go, IE do you want bolt on or more complex like welding ?  Also what is the price range you are looking for ?  These answer's will help in the reply's you get.

Can't weld so it's gotta be a bolt on. Trying to keep cost down as much as possible. Thanks

A flip would be quite a bit more then what your looking for. A flip will do between 5"-6" depending one how thick you spring pack is. Look at it this way: Half of the 3" axle tube...1 1/2 + the perch 1 + the height of the spring pack 2 1/2"?
I was where your at about 5 years ago, looked pretty good, but should be a little lower. I had done something very similar...I moved the frame down on the front perch & re-drilled the frame, put in drop shackles after removing the bed brace completely & then took the rear bracket loose from the frame & let the truck down until the shackle was 1/4" from the floor & re-drilled the frame.
After a year or Two, I did a flip on the axle, put the front hanger back where it began, flipped over the rear hanger/shackle & did a 2" angled (front to rear) body drop. to end up "the right" look. Lorne

Thanks Lorne, I found stock shackles & hangers so I think I'll pick them up then do the flip kit. BTW, what's up with the Oldsmobile emblem? What you got under the hood?

I made the emblem. I made a mold & poured in Fusor plastic repair material for the base part of the grille. The Red parts are from a broken 2008 Impala tail lamp carefully cut to fit into the 1/4" thick Aluminum face plate.
Just a rather basic 455. If you go for a look of my posts, you can find other pic's. Lorne
