throttle sticking
« on: April 18, 2012, 03:43:50 pm »
Done some searching but my problem seems a little different from what I came up with.

83 K10 350 700r4 w/ 81 Quadrajet

This weekend I took off the A.I.R. Pump, changed the distributor to a new non-CCC HEI, took off the cruise servo (which wasn't hooked up to begin with) and changed the TV cable.

Now when driving around town, I can tell that the throttle sticks (i don't have a Tach) the engine sounds as if it stays at whatever RPM's it was at until I lightly tap the gas pedal (then it goes back down to idle).  I don't think it was doing this before but its hard to say cause the engine is quieter now so maybe I'm just noticing it.

It does not seem to happen in park.  Any thoughts?

Is the return spring hooked up?
Is the choke opening all the way and coming off of fast idle?
Did you make any carb, throttle solenoid or linkage adjustments?
Just as a quick test, disconnect the TV cable at the carb to see if the problem goes away.  Don't drive it this way very far or you could overheat/damage the transmission.

So it is at what ever RPM you leave it at when you take your foot off the pedal, until you tap the throttle.  Not just at say 1000 RPM ?  If it did not do this before, and now it does, my vote is for a sticking cable or connection.
I would do what bd said with the TV cable first, sounds like this is more than likely the culprit.

It was the TV Cable, readjusted it and now it's running fine.

Thanks BD
