Any Brass Players?
« on: April 21, 2012, 11:53:11 pm »
I just bought myself a new trombone a few days ago...  I used to play when I was 13-14 but had to give it up for powers out of my hands.  I just figured to heck, I wanna do it.  went and bought one.  I'm surprised how much I retained from 17 years ago.   So who plays a musical instrument around here?

My Bone...  A Yamaha YSL-200AD.  Great Beginner horn!

Brand New on the Ride Home from the store...

Once opened at home...

I'm also playing it LEFT handed.  PArt of my problem before was that they made me play it right handed...  My playing suffered, and as I'm not gonna be in marching band or orchestra, I can do what I want.  :D

If I get good enough, One day I want to play with someone along the lines of "Trombone Shorty"  I love their style.

I've been a drummer since High School. Started in concert band but really enjoyed playing the set.
I've played in various local bands and sat in for a few other bands over the years.
I still have my set put together in the upper loft of my shop and practice every now and then.
I always have to have music playing. I was raised around music.

Congrats on the purchase of your new horn !!
A funny story about the trombone. I was playing the trap set in a High School concert and one of my best friends was sitting right beside me playing the trombone. Well I got a little wild and lost one of my sticks. The stick flew toward him and smacked up against his slide. It hit hard enough to dent both the inner and outer slide tubes and he could no longer move it. He was stuck the rest of the concert with his slide in one place just acting like he was playing. We laughed a long time about that one.   ;D

Have fun with the new horn !!!

Trombonists do it in seven positions! My favorite band t-shirt. :)

I still have the old Conn I started with in 5th grade. I moved on to an F-trigger Yamaha by high school, but after school ended I traded it off as partial down payment on a Camaro.

I got out of it in 8th grade.   I had been playing since 7th grade...

I got a "C" on one of my classes per a teachers grading mistake, and proved this but they had kicked me out and told me even though they screwed up I wasn't elegible to be in band until the next school year.  So in 9th grade I have had to taken 8th grade classes.   And my horn was rented as we couldn't afford it but my parents made it work anyway, well after this i had to give it back, as i couldn't afford an outside school tutor.

Another reason yet to despise the public school system.  Now I have a 13 year old going through it, I have officially been screwed over majorly bu BOTH sides of it.

I got this one now and OWN IT, so it's mine and no one will take it from me again.  I'll have this horn as long as I live or until I move upto a bigger, better horn one day  :)

I viewed it as around 12 years of low-security prison. I was bored, though, and would likely have done much better in Montessori, or even unschooling.
