Got a new grill, how to set logo ?
« on: April 24, 2012, 02:55:30 pm »
Hi all. I got me a new grill for the 87. Since the old one was threatening to rot off there lol.

So what is the best way to recondition the chevy logo? Its seen better days, but it doesn't have any dents in it. I'd like to sand it, but it looks like its brushed aluminum or something so that might not be such a good idea.

Also what is the best way to get the logo off the old grill without harming it?

With brushed aluminum your limited to what you can do and make it turn out right, unless you have the right equipment.  You could always have it re-done or powder coat it.
How is the emblem attached, fixed, popped on, or screwed on ?

Well its not screwed on so it must be fixed or popped. I'll probly just paint it then with a rattle can. I'll try to match the original color of the brushed aluminum as best I can.

The emblem on my 87 grill had two trim nuts on the back side of the grill. Take the 2 nuts off and then pull the emblem straight forward and it's off.

My '86 is like that, I believe the '73 was also.  Just a couple speed nuts on plastic posts.  (on the back side of the grille.)

What part are you referring to? What does the word "set" mean in your sentence? You keep using the word "grill", but doesn't make sense with the rest of what your writing. All of the '73-'90 grilles are plastic...nothing to rust or dent or be aluminum. The emblems all bolt on through the back with 2 speed nuts. Lorne

Unless it is an after market type grill, he did not say tube grill so I assumed he meant a factory looking one.
