I own a 1985 Chevy K-10 stepside , a few months ago i got a really good deal on a freshly rebuilt 400 SBC. The motor has maybe 500 miles on it since it had been rebuilt. They used a good kit too. It was rebuilt with over-sized pistons instead of over-sized rings which I'm pretty happy about. The motor cam our of a 76 RV. My father had to pick it up for me because I'm on deployment. He actually got to drive it around to test out the motor and it ran great. It cost 600 and it came with the turbo 400 (I'll probably save the tranny for my next project). So my dad got it home and tore the heads off and the oil pan off. He said there's no point in a full rebuild kit but a gasket kit is a necessity. So i got that. I also got Comp cam extreme energy cam and lifter kit with 224 intake duration at .050 and 230 exhaust duration at .050 inches of lift. I also have an Edelbroke performer dual plane intake manifold. A Mallory 85 series distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance, a BMB water pump. I will be using the 800CFM Q-jet on it that came with the 400. I have a Holley 600CFM but I think thatll be way to small. Plus I love Q-jets when they work right. All I need now is the headers and a few more odds and ends and the motor will be ready to go. I'm pretty excited about all this so I thought id share it with you all. I also plan of redoing the hole exhaust and getting a 4" lift kit for it before I get back. I will also be putting the bed back on with new bed boards. Id like to get a better built 700R4 for it also. I will have to take it easy on her until i can get one, theres a guy in norfolk that sells rebuilt ones for around 600 bucks. so maybe it'll be a christmas present.
