I have been doing all my own mechanic work shy pulling apart the block for years now.
I know far too much about Jeep Wranglers - mine is a 2001 with stroked engine, aluminum radiator, dual optima battery, snorkel, electric fan conversion, everything waterproofed and all vents extended, Dana 60 axles with Detroit Electracs, 35" Trxus MT's, 6" FT LA suspension lift with 6" AiRock, full armor and ridiculously heavy duty bumpers, full cage. I wheel the heck out of it, or rather, I look forward to wheeling the heck out of it when I return from Iraq - I am 9.5 months in, and have another 14.5 to go.
I'm going to fix up my old '82 C10 rather than sell it and need honest assessments on the best suspension lifts. I want to be able to fit 33" tires, and expect that 3" suspension lift will handle that. I will not use a body lift. The front stock IFS is pathetic. I'd like to get a well engineered kit, and use rear air springs. Is there anything worth spending my money on, or will I be better off having an existing newer model kit modified, and triangulated the rear axle fabricated from scratch?
If I have to go custom, who do ya'll recommend I get in contact with? I'm from Houston.
My truck is 2wd, and will stay that way, though I would like to drop in a Detroit Electrac - what axle came stock? I'm interested in a pre-runner type suspension, but have had no luck finding one for a truck this old.
Thanks for your help.
