700R4 tv cable adjustment on 84
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:11:00 pm »
I had to install a new tv cable on my 700R4. I have the original quadrajet and bracket in place. I adjusted the cable by depressing the D shaped tab and pushing the housing all the way back towards the firewall. I then tried to open the throttle to wide open and the cable would not click. I then depressed the D shaped button and tried again and got it to move and click.

I held WOT and released the D shaped button. I noticed when the throttle returned to fully closed the tv cable seemed to have a slight amount of slack to it. I can pull the small crimped piece of metal on the end of the tv cable where it snaps onto the throttle bracket and it comes out about 1/16 of an inch. I also measured from the metal carb bracket where the tv cable snaps into it and to the end of the round ball cap (the cable feeds through it) on the tv cable. I have 1 3/4 inch of the adjustment housing exposed.

I was wondering if anyone else had this much adjustment?  i have not driven the truck since the adjustment, as it just doesn't seem right.

I did perform the adjustment several times with the same result.

Thanks!

there will be some slack in it.
Once you get it pushed in, just get in the truck and push the pedal to the floor.

I did the push the pedal to the floor adjustment and then drove the truck. It had soft quick shift changes and almost felt like it was slipping under harder acceleration. I then pushed the adjust back a little towards the firewall and the shifts became more separated and no slipping.  It has no slack in the idle position now.
