This is really good news. Glad you are doing better. Want me to send the price now?

Sure Chris, give me something to think on. Enjoyed jumping on the WheelHorse tractor cutting the lawn today.

It has been 2 weeks since coming home from the hospital and wanted to update on my condition. Rehab is 3X a week, M-W-F at 9AM. I am told I am progressing nicely however not typical. My hand/arm is nearly 95% back, my estimate, but still have some trouble walking very far. Driving where I need to go with no issues and can walk without a cane but it isn't pretty...

Well, that's
great
news, Zieg!
...but, you should be grateful you don't have the reputation of being 'pretty....'
(...and, you should tell your doctor you want a cute physical therapist to chase around - that'll strengthen your stride!)
Joking aside, it sounds like you're making exceptional progress. And, I know no one more deserving!

In 2005 I had a blood vessel rupture in my brain and had a hemorrhagic stroke. When I got to the Hospital the neurologist told my wife to start making my funeral arrangements. The brain is an amazinig thing in that you can "rewire" it. I like you, had to learn to walk and write and do everything over again. My right did not go numb but it shook uncontrolablly. I was dizzy and nauseated constantly.
The 1st day in rehab thay gave me a walker. After a while when the guy put the tennis balls on the legs so it would slide it felt like I had gotten a big promotion. Then I moved up to wearing a belt so they could catch me if I started to fall. (no walker) It was a big day when I got to use a cane. I used a cane for close to a year.
Long story short, I am fine now. It was pretty bleak for a while but I put my mind to it and got better. My balance isn't as good as it used to be but that's about it.
Back to rewiring your brain. You just keep trying to do the things you have dificulty with now and they will get easier to do because your brain figures out a different way to do it.
DO NOT give up on yourself and don't sell yourself short. Just keep plugging away at it everyday and things will work out.
I worked on my old truck and that helped my motor skills as well as remodeling a room. Long walks are good too.
Keep your head up and you will be back to where you where. Think positive and God bless.

I do feel fantastic and the stamina is really coming back strong. I was on the tractor till 9:30 tonight and still going strong after a long day of non-stop outside work trying to get ready for my son's graduation open house in 2 weeks. Therapy is getting more challenging working now on balance issues and working toward the standard job requirements. Will have to take some pictures of how things are shaping up.

Does you PT have a Balance Master machine? That thing helped me more than anything else I did. Also, we have a big hay field next to our house. I would walk it daily. Once I had walked it a few times and made sure there were no hidden holes or anything, I know this sounds wierd, but I would try to walk it with my eyes closed. I had a stick to help with the balance.
Anything you can think of that is difficult to do (within reason) is what you should try to do.
My PT also placed a spread out deck of playing cards on the walls on each side of a hallway and would make me walk the hall and point out the cards as she called them out. You could not stop walking and it made you look at something other than where you were going.
As you make progress, at first you make big leaps. Then it gets to where you are making progress in smaller increments. Don't get down though, it's still progress. Keep working and you are going to be fine.

Balance is what she (PT) is working on most with me. Pretty much done with the hands stuff as most 99% seem to have returned. I have 5 more PT sessions approved with my insurance and she is very clear on what I need to do in order to return to work with some restrictions. At home I just had 23Ton of crushed run delivered and have to spread it out which is a lot of work with the FEL on the 58 Ford Tractor. Good practical PT if I ever seen it...

Oh yeah I agree. Any thing you can do that requires you to be up and moving is great. Glad you are able to do these things. Blance was my biggest set back. It's a little problem but I can live with it. I had a slur for a long time but it eventually went away. Just doing what you want to/can when you feel like it.

I love that old tractor. I always wanted one like it, but could never justify buying one of them. How are you doing? Any improvement?
