Sport Mirror Mounting Screws
« on: June 20, 2012, 10:20:26 am »
I managed to find a sport mirror at the junkyard last week, and unfortunately it was sheet metal screwed into the door it was on. I went down to ace hardware to get a couple new screws to mount it into the existing bracket, and the head of the screw is too big.

It was the only thing ace had in stainless that was close. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to do here? The original screw got vaccuumed up when I cleaned up after my wiring fiasco.

They hold my mirrors on, but don't sit in the hole, really messing with my ocd.

slammed79,
Just to make sure I understand.....you're looking for the torx head screws that attach the mirror to the steel mounting bracket inside of the door? I have an old set of mirrors that have them. I cant see using the mirrors since they are pretty well pitted, so if you want the screws, pm me your addy and I'll mail them to ya.

On my 74, they're phillips, but its the one screw that goes through the body of the mirror.  I'll grab a picture shortly. But if we're talking the same screw, I don't really care if its torx or not.

sorry but my mirrors are gone. I would think that with some careful grinding with a Dremel and you could make those work. Or... you might consider countersinking with a drill bit
