700R4 shifts to OD at 43mph
« on: June 21, 2012, 10:21:00 am »
84 2WD C10 700R4.  I seems to shift fine throughout the gears, but shifts into overdrive around 43 mph. This seems too soon to me, so I'm curious if other members have the same situation. This under light acceleration driving through town. Sometimes I just place it in "D" while in town and then shift to OD when on the highway. The motor just seems to be "suffering" when its in OD at such a low speed.

I am considering the governor kit with the weights and springs, but maybe 43 mph is "normal" and I should leave well enough alone.

That speed sounds about right to me assuming you have a low 3's rear end gear.  My 85 went to about 56 before it shifted into OD but I had a 2.73 gear

43 MPH is normal (a fuel mileage thing).  But, as you said, you could change it with governor recalibration.

It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

Mine has 3.08's and also shifts at 43 MPH, I just keep it in OD even in town. gives me more of an excuse to open up all 4 barrels when I have to speed up, haha.
