Thinking of getting this.
« on: June 21, 2012, 07:01:15 pm »
Been a while since i posted but watching Bitzer coming close to completing his truck has got the bug in me again.
A friend of mine is selling a couple of trucks and this one shouted out buy me.
Its a 87' V3500 Reg Cab 4wd Diesel with a twist,it was shipped over to work as a fire hose reel carrier on a airstrip, originally red/white with a HI-AB between the cab and the box to lift the reels on and off.No rot to be seen anywhere and pretty low mileage.I have a couple of things bugging me though.
First off the shifter cable from the steering column has snapped and im not sure if these are available.
Second is the gap where the hi-ab lived.
Heres a couple of pics.

I can not see the gap that you are talking about, but I know what you mean.  If you end up buying the truck, one thing you could do is stretch the bed forward to take up the space.
     Truck does look cool.

Definitely I hear it screaming all the way from NW Indiana...  Cables can be made I am sure...  From the picture it looks to be a cab and chassis so the wheel base could be just about anything.  Hope it becomes yours...

Good thinking, wouldn't take much to add a 24" or so to bring the bed closer to the cab.

From the picture it looks to be a cab and chassis so the wheel base could be just about anything.

Just ran the VIN and it came over to the UK as INCOMPLETE CHASSIS/CAB so maybe a long bed could be sourced if need be,thats if it measures up ok.

Thanks guys.

Gonna leave this one where its sat,no doubt it will never move for 11 years like my ex forces suburban that i sold him 11 years ago.The wife suggested just flying out to the states and finding a truck to bring back, sounds like a plan for early 2013...Flying out to a mates place in Ludington MI and the hunt starts.

If your going to look for a truck in the states, look somewhere it is not the rust belt.  At least that is where I would start.

To do that would cost twice as much for accomodation etc,I don't mind a bit of welding as ive done it all before,I would love to buy locally but the prices are retarded and more than likely they have been messed with and Isuzu engines fitted.
Rust belt ain't a problem,we live in one 365... 8)
