I have a 86 GMC Sierra Classic. I am swapping a carbed 355 with vortec heads with thumper cam. I was wondering if there is a junkyard rearend swap I could do to get Limited slip. It has a stock 10 bolt and pretty sure that is a gov loc. Is there a swap I could do for better traction? I don't want to buy all new eaton..etc.. so any suggestions would be cool... I would like to get an idea what to look out for at the YARD.

First thing is to determine what you have in there now. If it is original to the truck the info should be on a sticker in the glove box. If you have a gov-loc in it there should be a code G80 on the list.

I had the same thought that you're having about the rear end swap before I installed my engine. The engine dynos at close to 400 hp. Traction is not an issue. I have my suspension set up fairly soft and the truck just squats down and goes. The tires spin a little but it grabs really well.
There is nothing easier about making the swap with the engine and just adds to the list of things to complete. My advice is to swap the engine in get it running right and try it out and see where you are at. Who knows traction may not be an issue.

I hope you are pleased with your cam choice. A lot of disappointed folk over this cam as most report lack of performance especially off the line which may not be a bad thing as it relates to traction.

The 2.73 gear is also disappointing, that can make a nice motor seem like a 6 cylinder.

your cam is going to sound nice,but wouldnt make the power..its going to make more then stock just not as powerfull as some of the other cams out there...also id try to find a 3.73...alot of people say its great for street strip set up
