Coil springs versus leaf springs is the main difference, guessing the width is going to differ as well.

What zieg said.
The dust cover doesn't keep anything from leaking or not. Just keeps dirt and debris out of there. Without it I am sure the seals will leak before with it, but installing one is not going to change the leak.

Well guess I won't do that then, I got a flip kit in the garage for the leafs.  Guess I'll just clean it up real good and rtv the shoot out of it to see if it holds, if so I'll paint it up and do a disc convert on the stock 12 bolt.  But yeah the oil from before was just coming from the valve covers bad and leaked all over the front member so there's residue that I need to wash off.

What exactly are you planning to put the silicone onto?
If its your pinion seal that is leaking you need a new pinion seal. When installing a new pinion seal you will need no silicone at all. They are a rubber lip spring seal with a metal casing, you do not use silicone on them.

Just to clarify more silicone doesn't = sealing better.

Ended up taking off the cover and scraping of the gasket.  Made a new rtv seal and new rearend oil, all is well, it was the old gasket, painted it up too.
