Tranny noise
« on: July 07, 2012, 02:50:58 pm »
I just started hearing a possible noise coming from my 87 with the 700r automatic tranny with 175 thousand miles on it..I notice it when it is picking up speed around 30 to 35 mph,it sounds like a faint wine and only lasts a couple seconds.I checked the fluid level and it was fine.Any ideas.

My dad had a 96 z71 that did the same thing. Fluid was good, no slipping, never whined in neutral or park, only in drive during acceleration. Turned out to be the converter.

This truck started slightly whining around 100k, got really loud around 140k.

Turned out to be the converter.

This is where I would start also.
