1984 C10 - Straight Shootin'

Picked up another square to be my work truck while restore my 87'.

It's kind of a weird truck, too, 1984 C10 Silverado, fully loaded, with a straight six. Can't say I've seen too many straight six, fully loaded trucks. It will never be desireable, per se, but it is rare! :lol:

Got it for $700, 2 owner (second owner was the original owner's grand daughter) with what I assume to be a cracked head on the 250. It will fire up, but it just POURS coolant out the side of the block. I'd really like to fix the straight six, since I've always loved them. I don't need a hotrod or anything, and this truck is still pretty much all original (except the interior now...which I did).

The paint should shine up pretty nice, and I've already swapped wheels and tires, along with the seat and carpet from my old truck into it to clean up the interior. Also replaced the door bushings with some PEX tubing I had laying around, so they shut a lot nicer now! I do need to replace the wing window on the passenger side, since it's broken. Might just steal it from my 87's doors.

Interior was fairly rough, but not too bad overall. Probably going to put some   panels, these ones are dry and crumbly on the top:

Thanks for sharing.  Our truck is an '84 as well.  It would be interesting to have a 6 cylinder powerplant.  I do not think I have seen an '84 with one.

I had a 1984 with a 4.1L I-6 but it was a C20 Custom Deluxe.  It was such a deal...  It was a former Sherwin-Williams delivery truck with a Tommy Lift.  Transmission lost 3rd gear and they ran it that way until they blew the engine.  It was a Texas rust free for $300.  I sold the Tommy Lift for $300

Good to see another 84 silverado! Mine's just a different color and came with a 305 ... wheels and tires make such a big difference on anything.

     Truck cleaned up really well, I vote to fix the straight 6 and keep it in the truck.

Would definitely require a hone or bore and a rebuilt cylinder head to get this thing back into running condition, along with a new head. Looks like it's time to prep the 305/700R4 to go in...

I'm not sure, I'll see if I can find the manufacturer's stamp or something on it somewhere. It's definitely aftermarket though, and they seem to be somewhat common in these trucks too.

Got the TBI harness cut down to the essentials and almost ready to go into the truck. I am just waiting for the fuse block and relays I ordered to show up, and then I can install. While I wait for those, I'll be swapping in the EFI fuel tanks, pumps, and associated wiring.

More progress, harness is finished except for tying into the starter solenoid at the fuseblock for the ECM crank signal wire. Putting a 20 gallon tank on the driver's side, since I use it more frequently. Might convert the passenger to a 20 down the road. New pumps and everything installed and got the TBI dual tank crossover lines on the truck. Just need to get the tanks back in the truck now. Also wired in the ALDL and tied the ECM SES ground into the instrument cluster to use the Choke light as the SES light. VSS is hooked up as well.

An Atlas 4.2 woulda been pretty cool... still would have been a straight six, but getting close to 300 on hp and torque to boot.

Thanks! I've got the downpipe on it now, and the old exhaust from my 87' (hi flow cat, and Magnaflow), just need to weld it back up.

I'd still like to do something with it down the road, but the primary concern was budget. I'm trying really hard to keep this as the beater/work truck, and my 87' the proper project. I'm not doing so well thus far!
