No power to the distributor
« on: July 21, 2012, 09:50:05 am »
I recently added new heads, intake, cam and lifters, and a carb.  Since I have this all put back on I seem to have lost power to the distributor.  The motor turns over but gets no spark.  My lead from the cab to the distributor seems dead.  Nothing has changed but I have no idea what happened. Im pretty sure all my grounds have been put back in place.  The ground off the manifold to the firewall and the neg cable to the alt bracket are back in place.   anybody have any clues as to what I might be missing?   Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Check the distribution block on the firewall. And your fuses. Also if you don't have the factory plug at the distributor and some one replaced it with a generic spade terminal it might not be connected.

Will do.  Problem is alot of my wiring has been replaced by the previous owner who was apparently prettu good at rigging stuff to work, but not correctly.  My wire comes out of the steering column and runs through the firewall by itself to the distributor.  I'll look again at the fuses but I didnt see any blown.  Thanks.

Check the wire with a test light at the ignition switch.

Thanks sarto.  Just found my problem.  I was 180 out and had missed a line to the cap.  First distributor for me.  Anyway, all is good.  Now for final adjustment and exhaust.  Thanks again.
