no passing gear
« on: August 04, 2012, 08:35:54 AM »
76 Stepside C-10 with a early to mid 80's 350....700R4 transmission(4L60). Not sure if i have a dent cable problem or what...the transmission shifts fine though, but when you step on the gas it does not down shift (no passing gear). I am not an automatic transmission guy... i have little experience on them other thean R&R. Would like to find the prob mine is having.

Have you tried adjusting the detent cable? I ran into this problem on my 350/350 combo, now it downshifts great! You can google how to adjust detent cable, or I think there's a thread on here?

If indeed u have the overdrive , it is probably the 700r4......the 4l60, which is basically the same tranny but is  electronically controlled. It wasn't introduced until 90'.

Providing u are using the correct hardware w/the correct carb. the following link will get u started......Google 700r4, or try the search on this site......lots of info and ability to find the correct kit, for the carb. u have, if u need ...... I'm currently going thru the tweeking process after the initial set up, for my 700.......I followed this, and it worked just fine......
