Newbie Help - TBI to Carb Wiring
« on: August 20, 2012, 11:00:44 am »
I've searched around and I'm finding it hard to find the help I need.

Im going from an 87 TBI sbc 305 to a 74 Carb sbc 400. Reasons for the swap is the 305 is tired and underpowered for what I need it to do. Its a wiring mess as well and every time I drive it, I pray it gets me home.

So I was hoping someone could provide me with some help. Is there a wiring diagram around that I could use to make a wiring harness for the 400? Im hoping to make my own harness and have it ready to go. I'm a newbie so what may seem easy for some, is difficult and new to me. I've read the wiring diagrams on this site, but it includes the whole front end wiring. Does anyone have something that tells me EXACTLY what wires I need?

Sorry if this has been posted before. Im looking to do the swap asap and this is my last step.

Additional info:
SBC 400
4bbl Rochester Carb
Stock motor (no cam, etc...)
305/400/208/10's/35's
SBC 400 soon

Going from the TBI to Carb, you are going to just need the 12V for the distributor, alternator wiring, all the sensor wiring and the starter wiring, pretty much everything else isn't needed.
