Howdy from oregon
« on: August 23, 2012, 07:10:43 pm »
Howdy from Oregon,

a few months back, I sold my jeep because it got horrible gas millage and bought me a little tiny 4x4 Subaru for better gas millage, I'm happy to say that I went from 10 miles to the gallon to 32 miles per gallon, and the Subaru makes a great commuter to and from work, (70 mile round trip daily)

after selling the Jeep, I really missed having a nice big 4x4, (and the Subaru won't pull the boat) I had mentioned a couple of time at work that I'd really like to find an old Chevy truck, a nice big gas hog of a truck that would get my old boat to the river and a load of garbage to the dump once a month or so.

I sure wasn't going to expect much on my budget, but as the fuel prices keep going up, I've been keeping my fingers crossed that someone somewhere was going to want to dump their old truck.

constantly watching the classifieds and craigslist, nothing of value in my budget was showing up, their all rust buckets, worn out, high miles, nasty looking things that I couldn't coax my wife into even with the offer of a free credit card with unlimited shopping funds.

last week, one of my co workers asked if I was still looking for a truck, I said "sure" and he said, "I might have something you might be interested in" he went on to tell me that the old truck belonged to his dad who can no longer drive and they were looking for a new home for it.

my coworker said it was a 78 3/4 ton K20 Scottsdale rock stock, nothing fancy, with a 350 and a 4 speed. exactly what I was looking for, something simple.

I thought, what the heck, it's worth a look, so last weekend, I took the drive out to his place and had me a look.

for 1,300 bucks, I got a pristine 78 Chevy 4x4 with 70,000 original miles and full documentation of every little thing that's ever been done to it, including every drop of fuel that's ever been placed in the tanks.

the interior is perfect in every way, there's a little clear coat flaking on the outside, and a couple of small dents that should be easily removed, some of the body side trim is missing but   carries that, so that should be an easy replacement. I can't get over how perfect the interior is.

she needs a new battery, master cylinder and radiator, I'll pick the parts up over the weekend and bring the truck home next week.

I always wanted a full size Chevy truck, but could never afford one until now.

thanks for the welcomes, I've had the truck paid off for over a week now, then went on vacation, just got home, but the truck hasn't come home yet, the guy was supposed to deliver it while I was gone, it didn't happen, he says it won't start an thought it was a bad ignition module, so I bought him a new one for it, and gave him a rebuilt hei distributor just in case he needed it, I'll keep Y'All posted just as soon as I know something and get pictures up here when I get it home.

Finally after 2 months, my truck is home!!

The guy I bought it from said he didn’t want to give it to me not running but he had been really busy and unable to work on it until yesterday, turns out it had a bad master cylinder and a bad battery, he got them fixed yesterday and delivered it today, I test drove it and it runs smooth and is solid, with no squeaks or rattles.

It has 70,000 original miles on it, and came with all the service records from the day it was bought new, man am I excited.

It’s dirty filthy right now and needs a major cleaning, it’s sat for the last 2  years or so from my best guess, as the last entry in the logs is from early 2010.

Here’s a few pictures of it:
