Interesting things to do with parts.
« on: August 27, 2012, 06:22:43 pm »
I got the idea to make a wall clock out of my old 3/4 ton hub caps.  the clock mechanism is on the way, and being the 3/4 ton cap with 6 spokes, I'll probably put the even numbered hours on it.

I came up with this on my own though it's been done millions of times.  I'll post pics when I get it together.

This a random pic i found on the internet

This is serious MAN-CAVE stuff!

I'm gonna make one of these for my dad out of an old hubcap off the mustang they used to have for his birthday.  he's a ford guy so its a 1969 mustang hubcap.

I kept a hubcap off a pickup to do just that, haven't gotten there yet though.

I got my clock made, its from one of the old hubcaps that was on my truck when I got it.

I also got my dad's clock done too.  I'll give it to him for his birthday this year.

It's one of the hubcaps that was on his actual mustang 20 years ago.  it's been gathering dust in the basement at least that long until now.
Here it is back in 1993, maybe that one, maybe on the other front wheel.  but it is HIS, either way.  I didn't repaint it, I'm giving it to him in its last used, but clean condition...lol

I actually just gave away my Chevy clock.  I gave it to my mom's cousin.  He knows my grandad and always looked up to him...  so he said he didn't know what to say when I gave it to him.  He'll love it like I would have, as he loves my grandad, and that hubcap has been to every state except HA, and has been to canada and mexico too.  I had to give it to him, as I have 3 hubcaps left.  I'll make myself another clock later when its convenient.  He will appreciate it like i would so I gave it to him.  I like that it went to someone appreciative.  he will  never box it up, it'll hang on his wall somewhere.  I feel I've done something good.

Well, he's travelling a lot lately, cross country type driving. We told him we'd keep it for him until he came back by in a few months. He HAD TO take it with him when he left today. he wasn't leaving it behind! That's awesome. I thought it was a neat idea and loved it, but I promise you he loves that clock at least 50x as much as I did. That's a good thing. I feel like I did something good someone will treasure as long as he lives... can't buy that anywhere, however much $$$$$ you put up.

He asked if it really came new on uncle Rogers truck (my grandad)  yes it did.  That hubcap has been to all 49 cont. states (not Hawaii), been to canada, and mexico too.  He couldn't leave that behind and he was shocked I gave it to him.  I said I got 3 more hubcaps, take this one...  I'm so happy because it apparently meant WAY MORE to him than it did to me.  I guess I have the actual truck, so the old hubcaps don't mean as much to me.  He looked like I gave him a million bucks.  He'll appreciate that way more than I would have.  he'll have that hubcap clock as long as he live, I bet.

So, since my chevy clock is gone, I got my dads mustang cap hanging in my room till his birthday.  then I'll have to make me another chevy clock  :)
