Howdy from H-town
« on: August 29, 2012, 06:40:46 pm »
Just thought I should say howdy and try to get to know some folks on here.  Been looking around and you guys sure have some nice rides.  It's clear you guys put a lot of work and money into fixing these trucks up.

I just picked up an 87 Suburban, 1/2 ton 4x4 a couple of weeks ago.  I've been looking for a hunting truck for a while now and I just lucked into this deal.  1987 with 140k miles, 4x4 with 350 and 700R4 and 208 transfer case. I has a lift, not sure how much but its enough for me.  The truck has only one very small rust spot, about 1 1/2' dia behind the rear tire.  It runs well and the 4x4 works also.  (well it did run until I started trying to repair some wiring, it's as dead as a doornail right now) The previous owner gutted the interior and was going to apply bed liner to the whole inside.  It still has all of the parts, just not bolted in!  ::).   I'm thinking I might follow through with his thought and spray it down with one of those DIY kits.

My plans were to just fix a few small things and haul it out to the ranch to live out its days. Now that I've been tinkering with it I'm thinking I might make it road worthy again and take it on some 4 wheeling trips.  It just seems a little too nice to just sit around collecting dust.

Anyway, here's a couple of pics of my new toy.

Hello and welcome from Central California!

It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

Thanks guys.
I'm going to need to tap into your brain trust.  I shorted something the other day, lost all electrical power and I've yet to find out what blew.  I've ordered the Chilton manuals and hopefully their wiring diagrams can help me find the issue.
Anyway, I will post something in the tech forum.

Check out the tech section for the diagrams for your truck, and check your fusable links on the firewall, you may have blown one somehow, that would explain not having power.

Thanks for the info.
I've spent some time tiday going through those diagrams and I sure hope it's something that easy to fix. Too bad I am storing the truck 2 hours away at my brothers house. Maybe if I promise to buy some beer I can get him to do some remote troubleshooting.

Welcome from Alaska.  Looks to be a real clean truck.

Thanks Dusty.
I pretty much bought it off of one picture and a couple of conversations with the PO. He was one of the guys off of a bow hunting forum I've been on for a few years so I felt pretty good about it. When i saw the truck and heard it run i started thinking it might be too nice to just leave out under a tree on a ranch
