Rebuild old smogger 350 or swap to lq9
« on: September 13, 2012, 06:29:41 pm »
Ok i just bought a 77 k20 on a 82 k30 frame. Its a worn out 350 smogger with leakes everywhere hooked up to a sm465 with 4:10 gears in front and rear. Im going to build the truck for haluing. So the tranny and gears stay. The question is spend 1500 rebuilding the old 350 or spend about 2500 and swap for the lq9. Ive only recently discovered the lq9 swaps. After a little searchin it can be mounted to the sm465 with a kit. What do you all think? Old school or spend a little more an go new and save some money on the old gas hog?

Either option is a good choice. I went old school with a 350 and am very happy with with every part of it, although fuel injection would be nice for easier start ups.
If I were to do it again, I would go with a newer fuel injected engine just because i would like the experience.
In the end you can have great results from either option;
So IMO, it should be the build you would find more interesting and fun. You'll be happy with the results either way I am sure.
