The patina look

Anyone got any pics of the patina look on these trucks? The more I look at it, the more I'm starting to like it. Course my truck would have to have that look actually painted on. But being a patina paint job, it should come with the advantage of being a lot cheaper than a standard paint job of excellent quality. Seeing as how that's all I'd accept, personally. So any of you guys running the hot rod look? I'd like to see some pics if anyone has them.

Not my cup of tea... but to each their own! I bet it won't be cheaper either....fads usually come with a price. The cost of paint etc would remain the same as well. The flat paints look good on some vehicles, but that truck looks like its supposed to be fake rust.

How much does it usually cost to get one of these old trucks all prepped and ready for paint? I mean I know its going to vary, but say its one that's a kinda rough on the body side of things. Lots of large and small dents.

If you are looking for worn and rusted then the only way it will look right is if it's worn and rusted. I don't thank you can paint that look and be happy with it unless you are willing to spend big $$$.

Years ago I had some buddies that went with a look similar to this on their "rat rods". They would take the finish down to bare metal and then mist it with a light salt water solution and let us sit outside a few days / weeks. Once it got to a shade they likes they washed it, de-greased it and shot it with a flat or satin clear coat.

I never actually did this myself. They just explained the process to me. They said the hardest part was having good straight metal. You can't have body filler all over the place and get this look.

We used to rust-blue muzzleloader barrels. I don't see why it wouldn't work well on a truck body, and it was a pretty tough finish, especially compared to most paints.
I kinda like the look of a truck that's clean, but has obviously put in a bit of work. Fortunately, that pretty much defines most of what you'd find in our trucks, except for the show trucks and mall cruisers.
