1979 k20 silverado
« on: November 06, 2012, 06:53:00 pm »
hi there, im new to this forum and just wanted to post my truck and some info on it. i bought it in january of last year and have been fixing it up and putting it to work since. i love this truck it is a 1979 k20 silverado trim with the 4 speed granny low, a 350 bored .4 over and a mild cam, edelbrock intake, holley 650 carb, long tube headers and true dual glass packs (will be replaced with flowmaster eventually) the rebuilt motor only has 10,000 miles on it. and the only rust is where my doors rubbing because of my hinge pins. which i just need to take the time to replace. my plans are to strip the rhino liner currently on the inside of the bed down to bare metal because there are spotting of rust and have it sprayed with linex, id like to drop in a 454 and put in a nv4500 transmission. but thats all $ so itll be slowly happening. ive just replaced door panels, got rid of the bumper hitch and put on an actual reciever hitch, wired in a trailer brake controller and replaced my battery tray which fell out and i found in 2 pieces after driving down the road and my headlights flashing uncontrolably. all in all its in good shape.

i almost forgot to mention the coolest part of this truck, i am the 3rd owner and looked in the glove box after buying and found the original owners manual, factory build sheet, the inspection sheet from December of 1978 when it came off the line, paper work from the original owner dealership when he bought it and every receipt since the rebuild began in 2000, most of the work was done in 2006 such as a new paint job with new cab corners, rocker panels and front fenders. just thought it was pretty cool to see so much original paper work from 1978/1979

Welcome to the forum!
The truck sits perfect in my opinion. I also like the idea of silverado trim with a SM465 tranny.

thank you all for the compliments, the battery tray ripped out of the fenderwall somehow, im really not sure if i hit a bump or what caused it. i went a few weeks without opening the hood so i never saw any sign or had any heads up of that coming. i found the tray in 2 pieces though, extremely rusty and covered in battery acid. there was no rust signs anywhere in the engine compartment though before it happened. now i have a small hole where acid ate through my inner fender. :(. The lift is a 4" suspension lift, so with it being a 3/4 ton already it now has a lot of suspension setting under it, had a pallet of landscaping rock in the bed and didnt hardly squat. the tires are wild country tires 33" 12.5" on 16.5" wheels. bad news is with the wheels now its extremely hard to find new tires. luckily ive got over an inch of tred left and i love those wheels on it. its also hard to see but under the trim along the truck it is all rhino lined and ill try to get some pics of the frame and underneath. its amazing how clean it is.

got a lot done this past week on the truck, finally got all my hinge pins replaced and door no longer rubs against rocker panels and opens so smooth. i noticed my front diff was leaking so i pulled the cover off and updated to synthetic oil, the old oil looked pretty bad. also replaced valve cover gasket and header gaskets, then did a tune up and ended up replacing the distributor also. runs much better now. im in the process of convincing my wife to let me get a plow for it but it looks like that wont be happening til next winter. maybe by then ill have my 454 i want in it.
