« on: November 07, 2012, 10:48:36 pm »
Hello from south dakota. Found the site while searching on a bucket seat alternitive for my old plow truck so i can have heated seats in her. Rectally diagnosed with spinal stenosis the wifes heated bmw seats feel great and i do use the truck to plow commercially so i spend alot of time in the truck so why not make it as comfortable as possible. Found Promisekeepers post about retoing a set of deville seats and i think thats the way to go. Info about the rig is kinda like the old Jonny Cash song one piece at a time

Its a 79 diesel k10 chassis, with 79 bed 87 cab 85 doors and 87 drivetrain with 3.73;s on 33;s and a gov bomb. 10 bolt front and rear with full time slugs in the front. Tbi 350 700r4 and a 208.

Welcome Shane!
If you can find yourself some heated seats that have all of the controls mounted on the seat vs on the door panels, you will save yourself alot of headaches!

You are great PromiseKeeper! I did not want to bestow myself upon you asking you alot of questions but do have a few questions. Does your seats still retain the heat function and what switches did you get for your seats? Make and model year of caddy. It looked like the seville seat switches are what you used. I have an relative who got the wiring diag who works as a service manager that might help in this conversion. All looks simple and the box under the seat ties into the Door switches with a couple wires changing color from the door switch to the modual under the seat. Can i have more pics of your setup for reference?

Shane,
If you read the posts on this conversion, you'll see that the passenger side seat was pretty straight forward. My complications set in with the drivers seat. There is only one wire which I think is a data wire coming from the seat to the box under it. From there you'll have to track down another box under the dash that contains the circuitry for the seat memory.

When I ran into that mess, someone from the forum suggested that I wire the motors direct to a switch. In order to accomplish that I had to find a switch that had similar gauge wiring. That is why I went back and got a switch from another car that had all the wiring in the seat and not the door. The switch on the door had very small gauge wire. If you look at my post you will see a picture of the wiring that I bypassed when I hooked the drivers side seat up directly to the new switch.

As for the heat function, that part was controlled by a switch mounted to the seat separately. It was a straight forward 2 wire hookup. The lumbar adjustments were also mounted on the side of the seat. If memory serves correct the seats were out of a 93 De Ville.

In the end, you wont have lots of room to be adjusting these seats after they are installed in your truck. That being said, it would have been nearly impossible to install them without being able to move the seats enough to bolt them down. The seat backs are much thicker than the original seating so that sets you forward a bit. I swapped out the steering wheel for one that is a smaller diameter. Not sure of the year, but was out of a S-10 Blazer. Most any pre air bag GM wheel should work, just take your tape measure to the junk yard. I wanted to find a good Cavalier wheel, because of the small size, but they were pretty scarce.

Not sure what pictures you would be looking for. I pretty much posted what I have.

Any other questions, I'll do my best to answer....have fun!
