Vacuum Actuator Location
« on: November 08, 2012, 09:21:25 pm »
Hello all, as some of you may have noticed I am still working on the Heat/ AC dept. however, I am hoping you all can give me a hand finishing up. I have a 1978 Chevy K-10 350 with factory A/C.
I have managed to find and hook up most of the vacuum hoses to the actuators, but i still have one hose with no home and it pulls vacuum when on defrost.
So here it goes, There is the actuator toward the drivers side and above the hump in the middle, then there is the one on the back of the A/C- heater box. This one has two place for vacuum hoses but when I connected two there seemed to be a push/pull affect happening. not real sure what is going on there, do i have them hooked up wrong, any ideas? Also with only one plugged up in the back it seemed to have increased the speed when changing modes? Next, there is the actuator all the way on the passenger side, and the one on the outside for the vent.
So I really need to know if i have missed any actuator, or if two hoses actually hook onto the actuator on the back of the box, and i just have them wrong?  Also, is there a hose that goes inside the AC/ heater box and if so where does it connect.
Thanks for all the help in advanced.

Jstan, if I'm tracking with you, I believe the answers are "Yes" one of the actuators has two distinctly separate vacuum hoses connecting to it; "No" there are no actuators inside the heater housing; and "Yes" you've accounted for all of the actuators.  The vacuum motor with two hoses balances pull on the actuator diaphragm to position its door midway in one of the modes.

A pic could help.

It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

CaptKaos, I can take pictures of some of the actuators tomorrow but the one with the two ports is on the back side so I will not be able to take one of that. Bd, yes, I believe you are following me, do you know which settings connect to the actuator with the two ports, or which actuator the defrost setting connects to?
