Looking at Tires...
« on: November 30, 2012, 01:47:22 pm »
Hey guys, I'm new here.  I have an 82 GMC Sierra with a built 350 I'm working on, I'm going for a pro street look with it.  I plan to lower it 4/5, and I an wanting to put bigger tires in the rear.

I'm looking at going with a 315/70/15 on the rear, from what I've read I can fit that on my stock bed/frame.

This truck isn't raced, what tires would you guys recommend?

I'm thinking 15x10 wheels on back, and 15x8 on front.  Does anyone know the bolt pattern and backspacing I should be looking for?

Thanks guys.

Yeah it is.  I'm having a hard time finding 315/70/15 tires.

Does 315/70/15 = 28 x 12.50-15?

I still haven't found any 315/70/15.  Also, I'm wanting to do 15x8 front and 15x10 in rear.  Can anyone suggest me some black 15 inch wheels that will be a direct fit?

The truck will be lowered, so i have to make sure i get the right backspacing.

I've been unable to find any replacements for that size either.
Mathmatically 315/70-15 converts to about 32x12.5-15. Mostly found in off-road tread.
It's a delimma I'll find myself in before long. I do like the size alot on back.

I'm a little worried about mounting them on 10" wheels though. They may widen the tire out too much to fit under the bed. My other truck has 275/60-15 on 15x10's and visually they look to wide to fit under my lowered truck.

Thanks for the help.  I might go with a 315/60/15 instead.  I think If i do a 15x10 with atleast 5 inch backspacing it will fit, I'm still researching it though.

I just found these 31x12.50/15 tires
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hoo-19275/overview/

It says "great highway stabilty"  but they aren't DOT approved for some reason?  It might be an error on the summit website, because the other hoosier pro street tires say they are DOT approved.
