Hello from Chicago
« on: September 05, 2012, 12:37:27 pm »
Hello Fellow Chevy Truck Fans!

My name is Jim and I own a 1983 Chevy Step Van with a 1-ton P30 chassis with daulies under it... 350 V-8 power and a manual transmission.  I know that's kind of crazy... but it's a nice mix of old and new... VERY easy to work on and believe it or not... parts are pretty much easy to find.  I'm effectively building a man's RV out of it... nothing at all like a modern RV... but a vehicle to haul all of my tools to support my hobby (historic preservation).  I've attached a picture of my beast here... but that's what it look like when I started.  I've since removed the decals, removed the fire truck light bars and painted the wheels an appropriate color.  (I'l try to put some new pictures up in a week or two.)

I live in a suburb of Chicago... work for Dell (Computer) as a services sales representative and play with the old vehicles on weekends.  I still currently own a 1990 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 convertible but have owned a 1949 Buick, a 1952 Buick, a 1956 Buick, a 1962 Thunderbird, a 1969 GTO, and several other vehicles along the way.  I've done most of the restoration work including paint myslef.  I do hope to build a free-form full-enclosed hotrod some day.  Perhaps from a mid-30's sedan or truck of some kind.

My purpose for getting involved is to learn more about the drivetrains underneath these beasts... as well as get to know other guys who are interested in trucks (as opposed to cars which don't necessarily have to be perfectly restored).

Thanks in advance for all that you have to share!

Jim

It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!
