Well if you remember I was the one when i first joined this web. sight My K30 with a 400 CID and a ms465 was walking out of 3rd. gear on compression, it got so that it pops out if you didn't hold it in .Well when i did the K30 Wrecker Rebuild I swapped out the transmission for a good used one, know this one clicks in 1st. gear, I am part deaf and i can hear it, it sounds like a speedometer tick when you have a binding cable. I changed the fluid before i installed it and it looked like new when i drained it out. I am thinking a chipped tooth on 1st gear, I would like some more opinions, i would like to hear from every one

I'd run it a bit and see if it changes, keep an eye on the fluid for metal shavings. If it doesn't pop out of gear, or chatter I'd run it.

Thanks Blazin . One thing i tried today was to put the transfer case in neutral and run the transmission through the gears, and the only gear that ticked was 1st.

I might be stating the obvious, but you do know the 1st gear is non-sychonized on that SM465, right? I'd be surprised if you have a sm465 with problems, those are bullet proof. Rare to hear of them failing. Usually the truck rusts away before the 4 speed gives up.

Hi bluecrew Thank for your input, 30 some odd years ago i use to rebuild manual transmissions . I know 1st and reverse are non-sychonized. With engine off transmission in 1st. gear transfer case in neutral, i start the engine without touching the clutch the engine starts and so does the tick-tick.push the clutch in the tick stops.

I wonder if your clutch disk or pressure plate somehow either got bent in one spot or moved, the tick tick is where it is hitting as it rotates and that is why it disappears when you push in the clutch.

Wake 74 It only does in 1st gear, if you look at my rebuild pictures i installed the clutch and transmission with the cab removed and then installed the transfer case . The was a brand new 4 piece set
