A motor with a soul
« on: December 11, 2012, 09:24:53 pm »
So today I sold the engine out of my daughter's wrecked cavalier. The guy tried to get me to deliver it 3 hrs. away for an extra $50. I told him no you got to come get it for the price I am selling it for.

I even asked him if he had a truck.
The dude showed up today with a KIA SOUL  :o  I kept looking up the street to see if he was serious or if he had somebody coming behind him with a truck.
Nope  no truck coming...he wanted to put a freshly pulled 2.2 ecotech in the back of that car

I was laughing some when I told him that the engine crane and motor weren't going to fit into that little hatch back thingy very well. He suggests we can pick it up and put it in. Nope I tell him after beer almost came out my nose when he said that. I was not even going to try to pick the motor up off the floor for him. I told him I could get the motor in there if he was sure he wanted to do it. Well the young guy just drove 3 hrs and was getting a smoking deal on the engine for his car so of course he said that he was sure he wanted it in there. Now usually there are some guys around the garage but not today. It was just me and this kid I didn't know. After some pushing and prying it was in the back of that kia with no damage done to either the car or the engine.

Then I asked him what he planned to do about strapping it down. He said that he never thought of that and had no way to do it anyway. He grabbed a piece of broken bumper foam that I had in the wreck and wedged it between the top of the motor and the roof of the kia then proclaims victory.

I grabbed some chunks of firewood and wedged them tight on the bottom as I was stressing the point that he should stop at the hardware store up the street and buy something to anchor that down for his 3 hr ride home.

Then my daughter showed up...That was hilarious watching that poor kid try to talk to her. He looked like a pile of pudding. The tires he didn't think he really needed to buy from me, she sold him no problem along with a few other things off the car. So I dismounted those and they got loaded into that kia also. When he finally spent all his money and had that Kia Soul loaded to the gills he left.

Just another evening in the garage...haha

Ok I got one more funny part that kind of goes with bake74's post.
When we were dismounting the tires Amber (my 19 yr. old daughter) jumped right in and helped me. She is a garage kid after all. She new my next step and handed me or grabbed whatever just at the right time. She has done it so many times with me it was like riding a bike to her. So right at the end of the work the young guy is sitting on a stool by the car and he takes the money he owed her and stuffed it into the clip of a ball point pen and tosses it to her across the garage to her. Then he leaves after a few minutes. When he is pulling out with his car Amber is laughing. I look at her thinking that she thought the hole experience was as funny as I thought it was. I said that was a trip huh? Putting that motor in a Kia Soul? She says no this and holds up the wad of money in the pen clip with his phone number written on it. She laughs and says "No,he was expecting me to write mine down and throw it back. So stole his pen instead for thinking that!"

That's my girl!
And just so everybody knows I made the current boyfriend pull the motor with me the night before while she was at work. Kind of like paying penance.  ;D

Thirsty, I call that being a great dad and letting the current boyfriend know how much your daughter means to you and what will happen if he wrongs her.    >:(

Oh he knows. ;) He also knows that she calls all the garage regulars uncle. They range from loggers to diesel mechanics to contractors and everything in between. He has been in the garage during deer season also when it is doubling as a deer camp full of testosterone and seen all those characters at their redneck best. ;D
His first experience with one of them was right after the bad car wreck. I had to leave town on a weekend to do a roof and my wife went with me. So my buddy is at the shop the night before while I am loading my truck for the weekend job and says he will go down and check on her for me. Well the next evening he drives by and sees a car in the driveway that he doesn't recognize. >:( He pulled right in and went right into my house to find this guy in the living room. He had him by the neck asking him who the *%#@ he was when my daughter came out of the bathroom from getting ready for her date. "It's OK Uncle Corey!" she was screaming. Poor kid still doesn't trust Corey 100% but my wife, daughter, and I do! His version when he called my cell phone was "I just met Amber's date....nice kid". LOL

A Kia Soul, really? Seriously?

Reading through the posts makes me feel happy that I still have another 15 or so years before I have to deal with teenage boys around my little girl...

If I had kids I would want someone like Corey checking in on them as well.

I'd like to hear Corey tell that story over a cold beer by the wood stove sometime.

Here is a pic of old Uncle Corey (on the left) telling stories over a beer by the wood stove along with Uncle Jack (on the right). Both of these guys pass the fox hole test! For those that don't what that is: If you were fighting in a fox hole, who would you want to have your back?
