New Crate Engine

I replaced my clapped out 305 with a base 350 crate engine.  I put an Edelbrock Performer intake and a Performer 1403 carburetor on it,, along with a standard HEI distributor.  I am still fine tuning the jetting on the carburetor but I can honestly say this was a HUGE improvement over my tired 305. 

My truck is actually fun to drive now.  I probably have $2,000 in the whole job and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to upgrade the performance of their truck.  I look forward to driving it for a long time to come!

I've always thought crate engines were a great deal.
Your right, the difference between a tired 305 and a fresh 350 is night and day!

Well, the spec is 195 hp but that is a worst case figure.  I put low back pressure exhaust on it and used the stock exhaust manifolds.  So, I guess about 230.  There are some articles about hot ridding this particular engine and they got about 250 with headers, as I recall.  It is nice and torquey and should get decent mileage when I get it jetted right and broken in.
